Turtle Mural Added, Pool Filled at DVC Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Since our last update, the Disney Vacation Club Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has seen significant updates, including a new mural and a full swimming pool.

This morning, we checked out the ongoing construction at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. First, we got a look at the pathways that go from the existing buildings at the resort to the new DVC Island Tower. They’re coming along nicely and look like they’re almost complete.

We also talked to a Cast Member about the Magic Kingdom walkway. They said that it was almost finished, but it would not reopen until the Island Tower construction was complete.

Check out the mural on the side of the building. It depicts a turtle in front of Polynesian-themed detailing. The artwork is a welcome design for a beige building that looks rather bland without anything on it. At this time, we don’t know what other animals will be added to the sides of the building.

Major changes have come to the main entrance of the building. In our last update, the canopy in front of the entrance was gray and surrounded by scaffolding. Now, most of the scaffolding has been removed and plywood has been added around the columns.

We also spotted construction crews actively working on and painting the roof of the building. In our last update, part of the highest point of the building was still an off-white color. It is now completely brown.

Many balconies have been completed on the section of the building above. In our last update, the balconies all the way to the right were missing glass and coloring. Railings have also been added to every balcony on the second floor of the building. In our last update, less than half of these railings had been installed.

For the first time, the pool is full. Construction materials still surround it, so we weren’t able to get an unobstructed view, but it is full of water. This area still has a long way to go before anyone will be swimming, though.

Near the pool, the Moana splash pad has gotten some additional details. The outrigger canoe is still wrapped in plastic, but we noticed that blue padding has been added around it.

Over at Wailulu Bar & Grill, wood panels are being added to the roof. Some of the columns beneath the roof are yellow, while others are still gray and have received no detailing. Construction crews were actively working on large sections of the roof today.

Glass has been added to all of the windows in this corner of the building. Plants have been added to the exterior of the top two floors.

Plants have also been added to the garden near the mural we reported on in our last update.

This wide-angle photo shows the wide area that construction crews were working on today. The large square opening will be home to another garden. It has not received a mural yet, and the plants in the area are still covered in plastic.

Finally, we discovered that the first of the refurbished bungalows are now welcoming guests. The sunlight wasn’t cooperating this morning so we don’t have a photo, but some of the bungalows closer to the Transportation & Ticket Center now have scaffolding.

The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will open on December 17, 2024. Check out the resort’s guest room concept art and hidden manta ray detailing. You can also take virtual tours of three room types.
