Crews Install New Train Tracks During Disneyland Railroad Closure

Crew members are installing a new track for the Disneyland Railroad, which has been closed for two months.

From the Monorail, we saw crew members actively installing the new track in the northeast corner of Disneyland. Four crew members appeared to be securing a stretch of track over railroad ties.

Further down, new rails were sitting to the side, but the ties were already in place. Red spraypaint on the ground indicated where the ties and rails needed to be laid.

As the Monorail continued, we saw two crew members laying ties. Another crew member was driving a vehicle carrying a pile of ties.

Two mini excavators are parked on a gravel path next to a wooden retaining wall and railway tracks, surrounded by trees.

Two diggers were parked next to the rails. They were in use at the time.

The new track will be connected to this switch, which is used to send trains to the backstage roundhouse where Disneyland Railroad trains and Monorails are maintained. The track around the switch either wasn’t replaced or has already been replaced.

Around the bend, there’s no track where trains usually cross a backstage road. A crew member was in a vehicle at the edge of the road, likely preparing the area for a new track.

The Disneyland Railroad has been closed since August 4. Prior to that date, the New Orleans Square station was closed due to nearby construction on The Haunted Mansion queue, as well as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Bayou Country. Last month, we saw refurbishment work begin on the Main Street, U.S.A. train station.

The Disneyland Railroad has been a classic part of Disneyland Park since it opened in 1955, inspiring similar railroad systems at other Disney parks. It has stations at Main Street, New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland. The railroad’s current engines are the C.K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, and Ward Kimball.
