Disney’s theme parks change all the time; this is a common thing at all of them around the world.
Rides we love can close to make way for new ones, and even entire lands can get re-themed into something brand new. This isn’t a new concept for Disney, but it can be hard to accept. Now, one ride over at Tokyo Disneyland will officially be closing in Tomorrowland forever so that a new ride may take its place.
Tomorrow, October 31st, marks the last day to ride Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters at Tokyo Disneyland. This ride, which opened in 2004, was a variation of the ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Disneyland.
The ride will officially be closing because Wreck-It Ralph is moving in. The new attraction will open in 2026 and will “allow guests to “enter the candy-themed racing game Sugar Rush, which is being attacked by Sugar Bugs – glitches created by King Candy. Guests team up with the beloved film characters Ralph and Vanellope to transform the Sugar Bugs back to their original “kawaii” confectionery such as cookies and cakes.”
Based on the concept art, it’s likely that the Buzz Lightyear ride system will be used in the new ride and that the former blasters will be used to “transform the Sugar Bugs.”
If you love the Buzz Lightyear rides, you don’t have to worry too much. There are still versions of this ride at Disney World, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland. Previously, Hong Kong Disneyland had one as well, but it closed in 2017 and was replaced by an Ant-Man and the Wasp attraction.
However, if you’re hoping to ride the Buzz Lightyear ride at Tokyo Disneyland, you’ll only have one more day to it! It’s never fun to lose a ride, but it can be exciting to finally experience the new one.
