“This is Gross! Try It!” The Worst Food You Should TOTALLY Eat in Disney World

There’s ALWAYS that one person in our group who tries something gross and then makes all of their companions try it! We all know that person: they take a bite or a sip, their face cringes, and then they pass it around to everyone in their group so THEY can suffer, too.

Delicious…or Gross?

Let’s look back on a few snacks in Disney World that could totally gross people out (and some that have DEFINITELY grossed US out in the past), but also inspire them to take another bite or sip.

Blue and Green Milk

Blue and Green Milk in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are two of the most polarizing new snacks we’ve tried in a LONG time. These are frozen beverages served at The Milk Stand, and are made with a soft-frozen blend of rice and coconut milks.

Non-Alcoholic Green and Blue Milk

Some folks are weirded out by the rice and coconut milks (which makes them fully non-dairy!), especially since they’re mixed with fruit flavors. Blue Milk is a mixture of dragon fruit, pineapple, lime, and watermelon. Green Milk is made with mandarin orange, passion fruit, grapefruit, and orange blossom. If you’re not a fan of milk alternatives and the more watery flavor they tend to have compared to real dairy, you might have to brace yourself before taking a sip.

The Milk Stand in Disney World

Ok, so cards on the table — they LOOK awesome. If you’ve never tried it, it’s honestly worth it to get them just for a fun photoshoot! The colors are dead on to the films and we were giddy when we first spotted them. Then we tasted them. It’s not that they taste BAD, they just taste UNIQUE. The flavors aren’t actually very strong and it’s not very sweet (compared to most frozen Disney drinks!). To most of us they just kind of tasted…flat. The lack of creamy mouthfeel your brain expects when seeing them combined with the MANY flavors in each result in both too much and too little happening at the same time.

Blue Milk

The menu at The Milk Stand in Disney World has grown in the months since it opened, including adding breakfast food items before the closures, but the Blue and Green Milk remain! You can also get them spiked! The alcohol typically cuts out some of the sweetness, so if you’re concerned about the drinks tasting too sweet, consider trying the adult version.

Alcoholic Blue and Green Milk – served in square cups to differentiate!

You can also layer the two flavors to create your very own Blue and Green Milk “parfait.

Milk Hack! Blue and Green Milk “Parfait”

This is a hack, meaning you’ll need to order one of each, and then ask for an extra cup to mix the flavors in (sorry, they won’t mix them for you!).

Milk Hack!

What we’ve seen since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in 2019, is that folks either love Blue and Green Milk, or they despise them! We have yet to meet someone who is a ride-or-die Star Wars milk fan, but we’re sure you guys are out there! We totally get it — the concept of knocking back the same milks as awesome Luke Skywalker is just so fascinating, people seem compelled to try it at least once! Give it a go and see what you think!

Beverly

Remember Club Cool in Epcot? It wasn’t all that long ago that we were ducking out of the intense Florida heat for a quick ten-minute break in the air conditioning, while sampling free sodas from around the world! While most were sweet and fruity, one drink grew to be a well-known practical joke for unknowing friends and family.

Club Cool in Disney’s Epcot

Of course, we’re talking about Beverly. This extremely bitter beverage comes from Italy, and was intended to be consumed as an apéritif, which is a fancy word for a drink that is intended to be consumed before eating a meal to “stimulate the appetite.” Traditionally, apéritifs were made with alcohol to help them go down easier due to their strong bitter taste. You might be more familiar with other bitters like Campari or Aperol. These have very much the same flavor profile but are made with alcohol and sipped before a meal in some cultures.

Beverly!

Coke tried to mass-produce a non-alcoholic version, called Beverly, on the Italian market. Spoiler alert — it wasn’t a hit. Consumers were perfectly happy with the alcoholic versions they already had! Essentially, it’s not SUPPOSED to be consumed as any old drink when you’re thirsty or craving soda. That sure didn’t stop us from knocking back more than a few in EPCOT  for a good laugh! In fact, Club Cool was one of the few places you could actually still GET Beverly. You won’t find it in your grocery store or Amazon. It’s available to sample in VERY few locations around the country and the most well-known was Disney World!

Beverly!

Club Cool sadly closed their doors in 2019, but you can still find Beverly in Disney World! Head over to Disney Springs and into the Coca-Cola Store.

Coco-Cola Store

The building is largely a store selling various Coca-Cola merchandise, but if you head up to the roof, there’s a fun bar where you can order a variety of Coca-Cola based beverages.

Coca-Cola Rooftop Bar

Next time you’re at the Coca-Cola Store Rooftop Beverage Bar, order “Beverly’s Revenge,” which mixes Beverly with Hendrick’s Gin, blackberry liqueur, cherry syrup, a mint sprig, and orange slices!!

Beverly’s Revenge

So, it’s not straight Beverly, and depending on your taste buds, you may not find this drink AS offensive as the bitter soda by itself!

Beverly’s Revenge

If you miss cringing from the taste of Beverly — or you miss watching your friends cringe — you can still get a “taste” of it at Disney Springs!

Seasonal Items

Throughout the year, Disney releases a number of seasonal snacks and menu items, typically around festivals, Halloween, or the holiday season. Overall, they’re hit or miss, and we never know what we’re in for until we try the treats for ourselves! Let’s look back at some of the items that were NOT hits.

Poor Unfortunate Souls (Part 1 AND 2!)

Earlier this year, we checked out the Disney Villains After Hours event at Magic Kingdom, which is known for serving some spectacularly spooky specialty snacks!

Disney Villains After Hours

This year, we were excited to try the “Poor Unfortunate Soul” at Storybook Treats.

Storybook Treats Specialty Menu

It looked FASCINATING, and it was one of the items we were actually really looking forward to trying. Bring PURPLE soft serve? We’re there. Unfortunately, it landed pretty FAR off the mark. The combination of black raspberry soft-serve and Cherry Coke tasted way more like medicine than any sort of sweet treat. Trust us guys, we WANTED to love this one!!

Poor Unfortunate Soul

BUT THEN. Time passed. Halloween rolled around and we got Poor Unfortunate Souls REDUX! This year’s Halloween treats featured a similar but different version of the snack at Storybook Treats. THIS TIME, it was made with Cream Cheese Soft Serve, Coke, and Black Raspberry Syrup. The very UNnatural color is definitely fun to look at:

Poor Unfortunate Souls Came BACK

The medicinal taste is gone but it’s replaced with the VERY polarizing cream cheese flavored ice cream. Some of our team absolutely loved it and some…not so much. The sharp taste of cream cheese in ice cream form is definitely a “love it or leave it” situation for most folks. This is one worth trying to see what side you land on.

Ursula Cupcake

Poor Ursula. The girl can’t catch a break! The trend continues with another disappointing Ursula-themed treat! Back in 2017 we braved the Ursula Cupcake at Sunshine Seasons, which appeared briefly during the Halloween season. We’ll give it this — it was something to look at (we can’t imagine the Cast Members scrawling text on endless fondant scrolls in a kitchen somewhere!!).

Ursula Cupcake

We count our blessings that this was a temporary menu item, because…you guys…it was NOT good. While it looked appealing and the attention to detail on the cupcake WAS impressive, what matters is how it tastes. The inside, like the outside, LOOKED cool and spooky. BUT…the mousse on the inside of this cupcake was artificial bubble gum flavored (yeah, probably not our first pick either!). And not in the (cute and pink) candy flavor kind of way. Like, it was in the one-week-old, spit out and stuck under the desk at school kind of way.

Ursula Cupcake Interior

From the look of it, you’d likely think this was delightful cookies and cream mousse or some other yummy flavor. But alas, no. It was pretty hard to get down. Such a shame too because it DID look cool! Fortunately, this cupcake has NOT returned since that fateful Halloween season, but its flavor will be seared into our memories for the rest of eternity.
