News: Carnival Cruise Line Cancels Remaining 2020 Departures From Florida

Last week, we learned that the CDC’s No-Sail Order were set to expire in exchange for what is known as a “conditional sail order.” This new order required cruise line operators to meet a set of criteria before being allowed to set sail, including the cancelation of itineraries longer than seven days, testing for crew and passengers, and simulated voyages to test operator’s ability to reduce transmission risk.

We had wondered how these new orders would impact certain cruise operators that were planning on resuming their departures before the end of 2020, like Carnival Cruise Line.

Up until today, it was still “all systems go” for Carnival Cruise Line, who planned on resuming operations on December 1st. But now, the cruise operator has announced via Twitter that they have decided to “cancel the six shops that had remained in our schedule for December 2020 from Miami and Port Canaveral.” You can read the full statement below:

Royal Caribbean also made an announcement today that they too would be canceling global sailings through the end of 2020. According to their website, they plan on resuming Quantum of the Seas operations on January 1st, 2021.

Previously, Disney Cruise Line had already announced that all departures were canceled through mid-December. At this time, Disney has not issued a response to the CDC’s new order nor have they continued to extend their cancelations.
