Even though it’s October and fall has begun, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is still welcoming guests to beat the Florida heat — including us! We recently visited the water park (check out that vlog above) and have ranked all of its slides from our least to most favorite to help you decide what’s worth the wait on your next visit.
But first, a little bit about the park! Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park opened on June 1, 1989 at Walt Disney World Resort. The storyline for the park tells of a typhoon that tore through a tropical paradise, stranding stray fishing gear, surfboards, and a shrimping boat right where the storm left them — that boat being Miss Tilly, which sits at the peak of Mount Mayday and serves as the park icon. The water park boasts the world’s largest outdoor wave pool, 12 attractions to enjoy, and even surfing lessons (outside of regular park hours). Like its sister water park, Disney’s Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon also has an alligator mascot, Lagoona Gator.
And now, to Tim Tracker-approved slide rankings for Typhoon Lagoon!
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Slides Ranked
7. Humunga Kowabunga
This slide has you racing down Mount Mayday at a 60-degree angle in one of three side-by-side enclosed body slides. While we love zooming 214 feet downhill in the dark, this just doesn’t match up to the park’s other slides for us.
6. Miss Adventure Falls
This family raft ride first opened back in 2017, and takes you and three others on a ride aboard aquatic conveyor belts to spot precious artifacts from across the world for Captain Mary Oceaneer. While we like the connection to S.E.A. (the Society of Explorers and Adventurers) and Mary’s pet parrot animatronic, Duncan, it’s just not a ride we’ll always jump in line for.
5. Gangplank Falls
Gangplank Falls is another family raft ride that’s slightly more intense than Miss Adventure Falls. With three other people in your raft, you can move through rocky caverns, waterfalls, and under bridges through 300 feet of slide. The side-to-side banking while you slide down is never boring, but there are still better slides available than this one.
4. Keelhaul Falls
If you’re about solo rides and speed, Keelhaul Falls might rank higher for you. This slide takes you from the top of Mount Mayday through a speedy, scenic ride solo in a one-person inner tube. This slide definitely brings the thrill factor, which earns it a higher spot on our list.
3. Storm Slides
This is actually a set of three slides: Jib Jammer, Stern Burner, and Rudder Buster. It doesn’t matter which one you pick, any of the three will have you twisting and turning past rocks and greenery until the end. We love a big splash moment, so this set of slides earns the coveted third-place spot for us.
2. Mayday Falls
It’s tough to get better than Mayday Falls. Another single-rider tube slide, this ride begins in the shadow of Miss Tilly. We love the rush of this slide riding solo, careening and swerving through caves, under bridges, and past waterfalls. This is the most intense of the three “Falls” named raft rides, and for good reason!
And finally, at number 1… Crush ‘n’ Gusher
For us, it’s impossible to beat the fun and thrills of Crush ‘n’ Gusher at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. It’s got everything you want: a tube slide you can experience with a buddy, the choice of three “fruit chutes” — the Pineapple Plunger, Coconut Crushes, and Banana Blaster — plus sudden drops, sharp turns, and dark and open sections of slide.
Because it ticks all our boxes for thrills, sights, and speed, Crush ‘n’ Gusher is the one must-do slide we have to hit every time we visit Typhoon Lagoon.
Even though our number one slide is what we consider the most thrilling at Typhoon Lagoon, there’s something for everyone in your party to enjoy — even if it’s just the snacks or the wave pool!
