After more than eight months, we’re once again strolling down Buena Vista Street as part of the latest expansion to Downtown Disney! While Disney California Adventure technically remains closed at this time, the shopping and dining district at Disneyland Resort now includes several shops and restaurants from inside the park boundaries!
One of the biggest surprises ahead of the reopening was that Award Wieners, which typically serves their own assortment of hot dogs and our beloved Filmstrip Fries, would be serving the menu from Corn Dog Castle, which remains closed at this time.
You know what that means, right? It means we’re sinking our teeth into an ACTUAL Disneyland Corndog for the first time in FOREVER! We’re trying everything (yes, EVERYTHING) from Award Wiener’s new menu, so let’s jump right in!
Ordering
Dining at Award Wieners is a bit different in this initial reopening phase. The only way to order food at this time is to use Mobile Order on the Disneyland App.
The app is even making it extra clear to guests that you can’t try to get into Disney California Adventure by Mobile Ordering at those locations — you need to be inside already to get your food.
Food
First, let’s talk about our long-awaited reunion with our own true love, the classic Original Corn Dog! Dipped in slightly sweet corn batter and deep-fried, this is everything you’d want from a Disney corn dog.
Incredibly classic, and still very good! You can order this one for $9.79. (Oh, how we missed you!!)
For more variety, Award Wieners is also serving up the Hot-Link Corn Dog! Like its classic friend, the hot-link corn dog is dipped in corn batter and deep-fried, except this one’s got a spicy kick.
It was more flavorful than the OG, but may not be for you if you’re sensitive to a little heat (it’s not THAT spicy but it’s got a little kick to it!). You can snag this one at Award Wieners for $9.99.
And last but CERTAINLY not least, there’s the Cheddar Cheese Stick!
This one’s a bit smaller than its deep-fried friends, but it’s so much more than it seems. Hiding under that same corn batter as the dogs is a LOT of cheese…like A LOT. We’ve loved these in the past and it didn’t disappoint this time! It’s basically like the flavors of a gooey grilled cheese…on a stick. Be warned, it’s pretty greasy, more so than the other two options. If you’d like to try it, it’s $8.99, which isn’t as great of a deal as the bigger dogs, considering how small it is. It’s still a solid snack though.
We also got to try the Apple Pie Funnel Cake Fries again for $8.99! This is the only carryover actually from Award Weiners at this time. If you’re not familiar, Award Weiners kinda has a thing for funnel cake fries. They’ve released MANY varieties over the past few years!
We first tried these back in January when the park was ACTUALLY open and enjoyed them then, though they were plated MUCH prettier on an actual plate instead of a paper to-go box. Don’t let looks deceive you though, these are still delish.
They’re coated with cinnamon sugar, topped with apple pie filling, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and streusel. We loved this dessert! They were really sweet, but they tasted just like a very cinnamon-y apple pie! If you have a sweet tooth, then you should definitely try these funnel cake fries.
Also, if you order a beverage at Award Wieners, you can add a Green or a Red Mickey Jingle Bell Glow Cube! They are available for $4.99 each.
With two giant dogs, cheese, and funnel cake fries, we’re calling it a day on Award Weiners. We’re SO happy to see these classic California Adventure goodies from Corn Dog Castle available again, even in a new home. All in all, we really enjoyed our first trip back here, and we’re excited to try the rest of the options available here on Buena Vista Street!
