PHOTOS: Hong Kong Disneyland Opens Its Gorgeous Castle of Magical Dreams!

Earlier this year, Hong Kong Disneyland (like the other Disney theme parks around the world) had to close temporarily due to the global pandemic. It eventually reopened, but then had to close and reopen a second time.

The park is officially open now, and celebrating a huge accomplishment — the opening of its one of a kind Castle of Magical DreamsThis is the first time an existing castle in a Disney park has shifted from being themed to just one princess to being representative of many heroines. Oh, and it’s absolutely gorgeous!

Today, as Hong Kong Disneyland begins in 15th Anniversary celebrations, the resort is also  unveiling their one of a kind Castle of Magical Dreams! The original castle at Hong Kong Disneyland was themed to Sleeping Beauty and looked like this:

But, now the castle has been fully transformed and looks like this:

WOW! Thats quite the change! The NEW Castle of Magical Dreams has lots of towers and spires that embrace the iconic patterns, colors, and textures unique to the story of different Disney heroines, highlighting the diversity of Disney’s characters and their special stories.

You may not see a complete depiction of the character you’re looking for, but you’ll find interpretations and pieces inspired by their stories in the various architectural elements incorporated into the Castle. For example, the towers include symbols and images of Snow White’s apple, Abu, and Merida’s bow and arrow. Here, you can see one spire that is themed to Mulan and has a golden Mushu on top banging his gong to alert ALL the ancestors to his awesome new home!

There are also murals around the area that depict each princess and queen pursuing their passions. You’ll actually be able to find a mural of Cinderella taking a hot air balloon ride over her kingdom, one of Aurora dabbling in falconry, and another of Ariel braving the seas on a sailboat to visit her underwater family.

As part of the celebration of this new castle, Disney also did something SUPER special for invited guests, Cast Members, community partners, and Disney friends, including Mickey Mouse! The resort specifically asked them to share their own dreams and wishes on “magical dream cards.” The cards were then collected, placed in a treasure chest, and lifted up to the top of the tallest tower on the castle “ensuring that the heart of the resort will always be filled with hopes and dreams.” Anyone else getting a little teary eyed at just how precious that is?

Another amazing feature of this castle is that it features the fairies from Sleeping Beauty “spreading fairy dust” across the castle’s breezeway. This then casts light into the chandeliers and leads the way to a new rotunda that features 9,000 points of dancing light!

You can see even more about the amazing way that this castle was transformed, and how the pieces were built and then shipped to and installed at Hong Kong Disneyland by watching the video below!

Overall, this newly transformed Castle of Magical Dreams looks like…well, an absolute dream! It’s a beautiful incorporation of so many princesses’ stories and now serves as a “shining beacon of courage, hope, and possibility to all guests.”
