Downtown Disney District has a new Art Walk featuring pieces inspired by the different eras of Disneyland Resort, honoring 70 years of the resort.
Disneyland Art Walk
The Art Walk currently consists of three folding boards located on the west side of Disney Springs, near Disneyland Hotel. More art will be added throughout April.
Artists featured in the Art Walk were invited to take on a creative challenge: To interpret Seven Decades of Disneyland Magic through their own artistic voices.
In celebration of the legacy of Disneyland, each artist was prompted to draw inspiration from a Walt Disney quote, a keyword, and defining park offerings within each assigned decade.
Visit throughout the month to see the collection grow as additional artists join weekly through live art demonstrations.
Based on the 1950s and the quote, “Ideas come from curiosity,” this piece by Brittney Collins depicts Dumbo and a Peter Pan’s Flight vehicle flying over Sleeping Beauty Castle. King Arthur Carrousel is visible through the castle.
Tim Wollweber created this piece, which accompanies the quote “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” The art features iconic Disneyland attractions that opened in the 1960s — Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, “it’s a small world,” The Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
For the 1970s, Lauren Gregorio’s piece features Disney’s first-ever rollercoaster, Space Mountain. Traveling in front of it is a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad train. In the constellations above is the Casey Jr. train from Main Street Electrical Parade. The quote next to this piece is “When you wish upon a star, your dreams do come true.”
The last piece (for now) represents the 1980s. This vibrant art by Isaac Perez depicts Splash Mountain in the background next to the Star Tours entrance. In the foreground is a floating Tower of Terror-inspired TV surrounded by green electricity. In the center of the TV is the retro Fantasyland Castle logo that appeared before Disney movies. The quote is “The important thing is the family.”
