Disneyland is reportedly reducing the availability of MagicBand+ bands in stores as rumors circulate that the park eventually plans to phase out the wearable device.
Disneyland Reducing MagicBand+ Availability
MagicBand+ was introduced at Disneyland Resort in October 2022, but it never achieved the utility it has at Walt Disney World. At Disneyland, the wristband could be used for park entry and Lightning Lane redemption — and that was about it, save for some cosmetic lighting and vibration effects that would occur on certain attractions, during shows, and at designated interactive spots.
Tapstiles were only just installed at Disney California Adventure and Disneyland in Spring 2025. Last summer, MagicBand+ tap spots were added around Disneyland Park for the 70th Anniversary celebration.
Meanwhile, at Walt Disney World, MagicBand+ can be used as a hotel room key and to charge purchases, in addition to park and Lightning Lane entry. MagicBand+ wristbands can also be used on Disney Cruise Line as a stateroom key and for payment onboard and on the private islands.
Disneyland Reducing MagicBand+ Availability
While they haven’t been around at Disneyland nearly as long as they have been at Disney World, they are just not as popular on the West Coast. We’ve recently noticed several styles disappear from retail locations across property.
As of late April 2026, we have only seen MagicBand+ for sale in World of Disney at Downtown Disney, and the choices were extremely limited: Scarlet Witch (which is from 2024) or a boxed Disney Princess design.
It’s not clear at this time whether Disneyland is simply reducing the availability of the bands in its stores or will shift away from the technology altogether. We also don’t know whether a replacement interactive option for the tapstiles and tap spots will be introduced.
