Fresh piles of dirt can be seen near The Haunted Mansion at the Piston Peak National Park construction site in Magic Kingdom. Construction walls also continue to creep up on Big Al’s and a new retaining wall has been erected across from The Diamond Horseshoe.

Dirt Piles

There’s a large pile of fresh dirt on the hill behind The Haunted Mansion, where trees were previously cleared. There has also been significant excavation at the base of the hill.

The excavation continues towards Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the future site of the Disney Villains Land. Large concrete tubes are staged among the new dirt piles.

A new walkway between The Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder will be constructed.

Big Al’s Construction Walls

Construction walls and scrims now run behind Big Al’s, which is expected to close permanently this weekend. One of the park’s original ticket booths, the merchandise kiosk will likely be demolished to open up the area between the existing Frontierland and new Cars area.

The boardwalk behind Big Al’s remains open. Piston Peak concept art indicates the boardwalk will remain through the updates.

Westward Ho will also close.

New Retaining Wall

Across from The Diamond Horseshoe is the beginnings of a new retaining wall. Most retaining wall construction has been closer to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad until now. The wall is currently just forms without concrete.

Piston Peak National Park will include two attractions. One is an off-road rally race ride, the other will be a more family-friendly attraction. The area will also have a new original car character, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore, who pays homage to classic Disney cartoons.
