There are multiple gates now installed on the fourth floor balcony of Disney's Contemporary Resort in an effort to prevent guests from using the fireworks observation deck.

The fourth floor observation deck is considered a not-so-hidden-gem location for Magic Kingdom fireworks viewing. It was originally intended to be used by guests staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

However, the new gates signify Disney may be trying to move away from that.

Disney cast members confirmed with WDWNT that the stairwells are supposed to remain clear for emergencies. The gates do lock, however, they were unlocked during our visit and we were able to access the observation deck. Cast members are unsure if they will ever be locked, but the gates were installed to act as a deterrent.

There are two gates—one on each stairwell leading to the observation deck.
