A portion of the PeopleMover tracks at Disneyland Resort is currently covered with a plastic drop sheet. The PeopleMover closed back in 1995, but its track infrastructure remains.
PeopleMover Tracks Covered at Disneyland
While taking a ride on the Monorail, we noticed a portion of the PeopleMover tracks were now covered with a clear plastic drop sheet, held in place by several sandbags. A yellow bucket filled with small tools can be seen as well.
The drop sheet extends from the covered portion of the track to the outside.
A Disneyland visitor shared a post on X about the covered tracks, and though comments indicate that the plastic drop sheet is likely for a water leak below, Disney has not officially announced a reason.
Disneyland PeopleMover
The PeopleMover was a transport attraction that opened at Disneyland on July 2, 1967. Guests boarded small trains that ran on elevated tracks for a tour above Tomorrowland. The attraction was seen at the time as a serious prototype for city transit that could accommodate passengers from within a metropolitan area or even commuting to the suburbs.
The PeopleMover then closed in 1995, but large portions of the track remained in place for the Rocket Rods from 1998’s version of Tomorrowland. Rocket Rods proved to be fraught with issues and quickly closed in 2000. Since then, the PeopleMover track was abandoned.
A version of the PeopleMover exists at Walt Disney World as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom, which opened on July 1, 1975, and continues to run to this day. Scott Christopher voices ORAC-5, the current narrator for the attraction.
Notably, at D23 this year, a full reimagining of Tomorrowland at Disneyland was confirmed. No plans have been formalized, but we have long hoped that the PeopleMover will return as part of an eventual Tomorrowland overhaul.
