Construction of a new retaining wall has moved further down Sassagoula River at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside.

In the past month, crews completed construction of this section of the wall near Arcadia House. During our visit on Thursday, September 17, we noticed fresh grass had been planted on the lawn leading down to the wall. There’s still a yellow barrier in the water in front of the wall for catching debris.

In the photo below, here’s what the area looked like per our last update on August 17.

With this section of the wall done, crews have moved further down the river. As you can see in our photo from last month, the new wall ended just outside Arcadia House.

Now it continues all the way down to the next bridge.

Past the bridge, crew members were working on lining up the top elements of the new wall. Grass has been removed from this area.

There’s a long zone of construction with several excavators being used to prepare the land for the new wall. While the corrugated paneling of the boundary wall continues for several yards, these sections are not all topped off.

Past the corrugated paneling, crew members were installing supports.

Construction of the new boundary wall began back in March at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. In April, the first new pieces were installed along the river where it nears Disney Springs. The entire replacement project will take a few years.

Port Orleans Bridge Still Damaged

We also took a look at the resort’s damaged bridge. As we reported in July 2025, there was an accident involving a large truck striking the side of the bridge, causing it to be closed for a day and water transportation to halt.

Though the bridge reopened the next day (and water transportation resumed), its arched elements were removed and have yet to be replaced.

There are still orange barriers running along either side of the bridge, which includes a road and guest walkway. The barriers keep guests away from the damaged railings, although they were sanded and painted so they look a little nicer.

But the bridge hasn’t been touched in over a year.
