After sustaining damage, the life-size King Kong animatronic on Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Universal Islands of Adventure has either been removed or is completely blocked from view.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong Reopens

Guests usually encounter the impressive figure surrounded by foliage at the end of the ride, as seen above. Instead, there is now a black scrim across the space.

A sign outside warns guests that Skull Island: Reign of Kong “will temporarily feature a modified ride experience as we conduct maintenance.”

Skull Island: Reign of Kong reopened on Friday after weeks of being closed. Amid rumors that the life-size King Kong animatronic had been damaged by a fire, Universal Orlando confirmed the animatronic was damaged in a statement to Attractions Magazine:

During routine maintenance, the King Kong animatronic sustained damage and is undergoing repairs. We look forward to welcoming guests back once the work is complete.

Universal did not provide details about how the damage occurred, the extent of the damage, or the refurbishment timeline.

Last year, the outdoor section of Skull Island: Reign of Kong was fixed after years.
