Will Fans Be Able to Handle This MASSIVE Change in the ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot?

Hey Harry Potter fans, how are we feeling about this?

We’re a few months away from the brand-new Harry Potter reboot dropping on HBO, and while the trailers are showing a lot of similarities between the movies and the show, there is going to be one DRASTIC difference that is going to be a tough pill for fans to swallow.

There are a ton of iconic elements that come with Harry Potter, but one that stands out amongst the rest is John Williams’ unbelievable score. Pieces like “Hedwig’s Theme,” “Leaving Hogwarts,” “Harry’s Wonderous World,” and more are what make the movies so magical. When this new show was announced, fans were wondering if those scores would be used. Well, it looks like we can expect something different in this new series.

Hans Zimmer will be creating the score for the new series, and he has created some of the most epic and whimsical movie scores of all time. Movie scores like Interstellar, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, and Inception are just a VERY small portion of his portfolio. That being said, we don’t know how we feel about our beloved Harry Potter score changing.

Hans Zimmer even recognizes the challenge of creating a new score for the franchise. He spoke in an interview with Collider about how “intimidating it was to follow in the footsteps of iconic composer John Williams.” When asked about whether his Harry Potter music would be similar to Williams’, Zimmer pointed to his experience on Man of Steel. He said, “I can’t write like John Williams, but even if I could, I would try to stay away as far as possible and try to be original.

“When I was doing Man of Steel, which, of course, is Superman, for three months I was running around going, ‘I don’t know. I can’t do this. I can’t do this because it’s John Williams. John Williams is — it’s brilliant! It’s brilliant!” Zimmer said.

Zimmer then talked about Zack Snyder’s (director of Man of Steel) reaction to hearing his new version of the Superman theme. He said, “Zack just said the simplest thing to me. He said, ‘Hans, it was just a movie. This is just a movie.’ And that was so liberating. It’s just a movie, and my life is all about making music for movies, which I do because I love it. I love the movies, and I love having fun with it.”

Oh, how interesting it will be to watch Harry Potter and potentially hear a very different soundtrack. Season one of this reboot will debut on HBO Christmas Day, December 25th, 2026. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what the new theme sounds like. For more entertainment and Harry Potter reboot news, make sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog!
