A test car has arrived at Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift in Universal Studios Florida. Crews have also added more shipping container theming and steel to the new roller coaster. All the photos below are by photographer bioreconstruct on X.
Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift Test Car
The test car appears to be shaped like Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger from the Fast and Furious films. It’s covered in a tarp and has a frame around it for envelope testing. The Dodge Charger will be the lead vehicle of the coaster trains, as we’ve seen on the coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood, which officially opened last week.
It currently sits at the end of the first launch, facing backwards. It’s being used for pull testing, which means crews literally pull it along the track with a crane to ensure everything is aligned correctly.
Envelope testing means crews will make sure there is enough space around the car for guests’ heads and arms.
Facade & Theming
The ride’s future entrance facade continues to take shape. Since our last update with photos by bioreconstruct, horizontal steel beams have been added. The facade is next to the Ghostbusters firehouse at the end of the park’s entrance thoroughfare in the New York area.
Inside the loading station is a new wall covered in Barricade building wrap.
Crews have added green corrugated paneling behind the Peterbilt-style semi-truck installed a few weeks ago. This is the start of a faux shipping container that will act as the jackknifed truck’s haul.
The paneling is supported by a steel frame over the truck’s bed. From a rider’s point of view, the bed with the shipping container on top will appear to be horizontal across the coaster track.
But the cars will avoid a collision by diving under the truck. In bioreconstruct’s photo above, 1 is where guests will encounter a door after leaving the station. The cars will turn and 2 is where they will accelerate facing the trailer. At 3 is the ramp going under the truck.
Other fake shipping containers create walls leading up to the truck. The coaster track crossing above is for riders returning to the station.
Fast and Furious: Supercharged closed last month and some props in the queue may be saved for use at Hollywood Drift.
