Universal Pictures is the first studio to cross $5 billion globally at the box office this year.
2026 has been a big year for Universal Pictures. The Odyssey became Universal’s highest-grossing film ever, earning more than $1.73 billion worldwide. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael also surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, while Obsession and Minions & Monsters followed with strong runs.
Only five films have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide so far in 2026, with Universal Pictures distributing three of them. The other two were Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5.
Universal Pictures has a few more films scheduled to round out 2026, including Forgotten Island, Other Mommy, and Sense and Sensibility. These upcoming releases could help Universal add to its box office total before the end of the year.
