For Dolly Parton Day, The Walt Disney Company is honoring the life and legacy of Dolly Parton in entertainment, philanthropy, and pop culture.
Disney Celebrates Dolly Parton
From October 9 to October 15, fans of the workplace comedy 9 to 5 will have the opportunity to experience the film in theaters. For this theatrical rerun, the classic will be restored for the one-week engagement. Tickets are now on sale nationwide.
For this release, Disney says it will donate “net proceeds from every U.S. ticket purchased to The Dollywood Foundation in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a literacy initiative that has provided millions of free books to children around the world.”
The announcement was made on the first-ever “Give Like Dolly Day.” An annual celebration dedicated to honoring Dolly Parton’s lifelong dedication to helping children and inspiring communities to make a difference in a child’s life. This celebration will be observed each year on 9/25, a play on the film’s title track “9 to 5.”
The Country Music Association (CMA) also announced they will be paying tribute to Dolly Parton with a two-hour television special featuring performances, archival footage, and personal stories, CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton. The special will be filmed at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville and will air live on October 21 on ABC and stream on Disney+ in the U.S. and internationally, and will be available on Hulu the following day.
CMA and Belmont University have also committed to making a donation from the proceeds of the special to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, an initiative that gifts a free book each month and inspires a lifelong love of reading. Disney is also joining in and supporting the Imagination Library to further its mission of inspiring children to imagine their possibilities.
Now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu is the 20/20 Dolly Parton special, which celebrates the life and legacy of Dolly Parton and features never-before-seen interviews with Parton.
