An update to rope drop procedures has been adopted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The change allows guests into most lands before park opening, thus eliminating “holding areas.”

New Rope Drop Procedures at Animal Kingdom

Rope drop procedures have changed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Guests are no longer being held in the center of Discovery Island. Instead, they are able to enter the lands of the park ahead of the Early Entry start time.

The attraction lines are only open for guests with Early Entry. At the entrance to each attraction, Cast Members are scanning guests’ tickets to determine if they are staying at a Disney resort and have the Early Entry benefit. All other guests are able to line up near the entrance of the attraction or walk around the land until the park officially opens for all guests.

However, this is one exception. Only resort hotel guests with the Early Entry benefit can access Pandora – The World of Avatar. In our photo above, hotel guests with Early Entry benefits proceed to the left, and non-resort guests line up to the right for Pandora.

In early July, non-early entry guests were moved from waiting in the Oasis (the entrance area before Discovery Island) to Discovery Island until the park’s official opening time at 8 a.m.
