We visited the Atlantic Dance Hall on Sunday, September 27 for a final look before its permanent closure at Disney’s BoardWalk.

Atlantic Dance Hall

As Hurly-Burly jazz club prepares to open on October 1 at Disney’s BoardWalk, the Atlantic Dance Hall is ending its normal operations to become a special event venue. Atlantic Dance Hall will continue to be available for private events through Disney Meetings & Events and Disney Fairy Tale Weddings.

Its final weekend is this weekend (September 25-27), with operating hours of 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night.

The official description on the Walt Disney World website reads:

Get into the groove at this stylish nightclub and dance to hits from the ‘80s, ‘90s and today.

When the sun goes down, the party gets started at this stunning Art Deco ballroom. Watch the stars twinkle on the ceiling above the expansive dance floor as you strut your stuff.

Between tunes, take a break on one of the balconies that overlooks the rippling waters of Crescent Lake, which stretches from the lip of the Dance Hall to the BoardWalk and beyond.

Make every night a night to remember!

Atlantic Dance Hall is for Guests who are 21 years of age and older.

Exterior

The Atlantic Dance Hall faces Crescent Lake with Flying Fish on the opposite side of the lake.

On the exterior facade of the cream-colored building, a large circular sign is in the middle reads “Atlantic Dance” and “Dancing Nitely” with two dancers in front of a starry night sky. Yellow stars surround the sign, and lights illuminate from underneath.

Three posters reading “Video,” “Join the Party Atlantic Dance Hall Video DJ Nightclub,” and “Dance.” are underneath the sign.

A marquee lets guests know that there is a live DJ and no cover charge. It also lists the operating days and times.

Other outdoor areas have red tables and chairs, as well as trash cans for guests who want to sit outside.

I.D. Check

Atlantic Dance Hall has a 1930s Art Deco theming, modeled after an elegant coastal ballroom. The space originally leaned into a vintage 1930s swing and jazz atmosphere to capitalize on the mid-1990s retro swing revival that was taking place when the resort was built.

Right inside a Cast Member checks identification. Signage alerts guests that they must be at least 21 years old to enter.

The color palette consists of gold tones and beiges, maroon, navy blue, and brown. One wall has a man in a dance pose with “Dancing” text next to him with light bulb-style lettering. Geometric art surrounds him.

Other art in the space includes a keyboard, another person dancing, and more geometric shapes.

The flooring has a large star surrounded by moons in the center, as well as oblong red shapes throughout. There are stars on the navy ceiling.

There is also a vintage ticket window with the same Art Deco theming. Signs above each of the two windows reads “Atlantic Dance Admission.”

Dance Floor

The 13,000 square foot interior features a large wooden dance floor as the main focal point on the first level. It’s checkered, which also contributes to the 1930s Art Deco theming. The ceiling has twinkly stars above.

Swirly shapes are projected onto the walls of the dance hall.

A large DJ booth is also set up. There is also a giant screen on the stage. Tables and chairs line the perimeter of the dance floor.

The second level was roped off, so we were not able to go up there and capture footage. Signage reads “Pardon our pixie dust” and “This area is closed for refurbishment.” From what we could see, the stairs leading up had plain maroon carpet. Two large lamps sit on either side.

A set of stairs in another area of the Atlantic Dance Hall has maroon carpeting with ornate detailing. On the landing is artwork covering the height of the wall. It’s a black and white image of people from the 1930s dancing in a place that would have been very similar to the Atlantic Dance Hall.

Bar

Adjacent to the dance floor is the bar area where guests can purchase beverages. Surrounding tables offer a place for people to get off their feet in between all the dancing. Clear shelving holds bottles and decor.

A large circular mirror behind the bar features very 90s-looking martini glass art with a moon and stars above it. It’s surrounded by red lighting.
