Disney is removing mosaic work from the pavement of Planetary Plaza outside Mission: SPACE in EPCOT.

Mission: SPACE Mosaic Pavement

Disney added mosaic planets and stars to the pavement back in 2023. But they proved problematic, chipping due to frequent foot traffic. Disney attempted repairs, but the mosaics have become progressively duller as they were replaced by concrete patches.

On Saturday, September 26, we noticed scoring in a section of pavement that featured mosaic stars. By Tuesday, September 29, this pavement had been torn up and replaced by plain concrete.

Scoring has begun on the next section of formerly mosaic pavement, suggesting it will be replaced within a few days.

An array of red gems remain in another section of pavement. But the planets nearby are no longer colorful, just brown and gray.

Above is a black hole outside of Mission: SPACE Cargo Bay as it looked when installed in 2023, repaired in 2025, and today. While originally a vibrant blue, red, and orange mosaic around a black hole, it’s now just a dark swirl.
