An adult guest reportedly climbed out of a Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride vehicle at Magic Kingdom on Tuesday, September 29, causing the attraction to stop for more than 20 minutes.
Video shared by Band Mugs on Instagram shows a Cast Member escorting the guest away from the attraction after the incident. According to Band Mugs, the “Grown A$$ man” guest exited his log while it was climbing the final lift hill leading to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’s roughly 50-foot drop. Within the comments, Rob of Band Mugs states that the guest was apparently frightened by the upcoming drop and left his own child behind in the ride vehicle.
Walt Disney World‘s version of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure uses individual lap bars across each row of its ride vehicles, while Disneyland’s version of the attraction does not use lap bars or seat belts. This difference came into focus following a much more serious incident at Disneyland earlier this summer.
On June 21, a 13-year-old guest climbed out of his ride vehicle near the attraction’s final drop. Video later showed the teenager falling down the approximately 50-foot water-covered track. Cast Members stopped the attraction, and the guest was transported to a hospital for evaluation before being released.
California safety officials inspected Disneyland’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure following that incident and found no operational issues before clearing the attraction to reopen. Disneyland later added stronger warnings reminding guests to remain seated throughout the ride.
While the circumstances of the two incidents differ, the latest situation at Magic Kingdom shows that a lap bar does not necessarily prevent a guest from exiting a Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride vehicle during the attraction.
Disney has not publicly announced any changes to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World following Tuesday’s incident.
