GTA 6 May Not Include Parodies of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios

The latest game in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise will likely not include parodies of Florida’s leading theme parks, according to developer Rockstar Games.

The GTA 6 map, which covers a wide expanse of land set in a dramatized representation of Florida, will be twice the size of the map in GTA 5, which itself was based around the greater Los Angeles area. Early previews and comments regarding the setting for the next GTA installment suggest the Florida setting will feel “more dense, detailed, and interactive” than prior releases.

The map will be divided into the following six primary regions, named as follows:

  • Vice City
  • Leonida Keys
  • Grassrivers
  • Port Gellhorn
  • Ambrosia
  • Mount Kalaga National Park

Each of these corresponds roughly to a real-world location in the state of Florida. Vice City is based on Miami, the Leonida Keys mimic the Florida Keys, and Grassrivers takes the place of the Everglades.

Other areas are more nebulous in nature as of writing. Port Gellhorn stands in for “Florida’s many smaller and, in some cases, struggling tourist trap areas.” Ambrosia is the manufacturing city, and Mount Kalaga is a national park on the fictional equivalent of the Florida-Georgia line.

Despite the game map including regions that stretch from Florida’s northern border to its southernmost cities, other comments indicate that GTA 6 may not include parodies of Florida’s popular theme parks, like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld, at least based on what is shown for Florida’s central region thus far.

The GTA 6 team had to be selective about the locations it could incorporate. Paul MacPherson, senior vice president of environment art, noted that this was done to ensure locations in the game served the game’s needs.

“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distill a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs. So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!”

The latest game in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise will likely not include parodies of Florida's leading theme parks, according to developer Rockstar Games.

While a theme park sounds like a chaotic, opportune setting for a sandbox experience like GTA, we will have to wait and see if the game’s Central Florida area will offer any such environment for players.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC release date.
