A week after the fake logs and tree stumps dotting Echo Lake got a fresh coat of paint, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has added themed details to both the scenery and to Dockside Diner as refurbishment continues.

Echo Lake Logs Receive Shading and Contrast

Repainting the (formerly) faded fake logs and tree stumps in Echo Lake began in late September, when we noticed the stumps were a shiny solid brown. The logs received their brown base coat a few days later.

Detailed shading and contrast have now been added to the props, giving them a much more realistic look that emphasizes the texture and makes them look like real wood from a distance.

For reference, here’s what the logs looked like last week (flat, solid brown) compared to now, with the more detailed paint job.

Dockside Diner Details

Last week, crews also began painting S.S. Down the Hatch, the “boat” that houses Dockside Diner, refreshing the white and adding a fake water line. The bright red hull has also been repainted, and subtle “rusting” is being added all over.

The orange-hued “rust” details are being strategically applied to the boat’s portholes and rivets.

Echo Lake, which is home to Hollywood Studios’ famed Gertie the Dinosaur, was drained last month, and scaffolding was installed around Dockside Diner soon after.
