Hotel Coffee Crawl: Fans Have Been Talking About This Disney World Spot for Over 15 Years

Welcome back, Disney coffee people! It’s time for episode two of the Hotel Coffee Crawl, where I’m on a journey to go to EVERY Disney World resort to find out which one is the best to work from home at based on coffee, atmosphere, and space availability!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

As a writer for DFB, I have the privilege of working from home. And living close to Disney World gives me another privilege on top of that — working from the resorts! Today, we are headed to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for my workday!

The Polynesian Village Resort is one of Disney World’s Deluxe Resorts and is located closest to the Magic Kingdom. The resort celebrates the welcoming “Aloha Spirit” of the South Pacific, such as tiki culture, and offers a nostalgic image of Pacific Island vacations. The dark woods around the resort are contrasted against brighter hued accents and tropical flowers. The dining locations found here include ‘Ohana, Kona Cafe, Kona Island, Tambu Lounge, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, and Capt. Cook’s.

Coffee – 7/10

For my coffee, I grabbed the Polynesian’s exclusive Joffrey’s Coffee blend at Kona Island. I got the Kona Blend Iced Coffee with Caramel and Sweet Cream. This was really just a basic iced coffee with flavor, and I added a splash of oat milk and sweet cream on top. On the Joffrey’s Coffee website, it mentions that the Kona Blend has a bit of a fruity nuance, but I really didn’t get any of that flavor, unfortunately — it just tasted like a normal coffee.

But I did like how you got a coffee flavor, unlike the Biscoff Latte at Coronado Springs Resort. I added the caramel syrup for some sweetness, and it wasn’t overly sweet, which I appreciated. However, it was hard to taste the sweet cream since the lid was not a sippy-cup lid — it’s a lid where you have to put in a straw. So, the sweet cream just blended into the coffee. For the value, I thought it was great! Even with the upcharge of the sweet cream, my total came to $6.06 after tax, which I think is a great deal!

I had high expectations for this coffee since Kona Island has been so beloved for over a decade and a half! We’ve actually been recommending this spot for a LONG time! And one of YOU also praised Kona Island, saying, “The Coffee Situation at the Poly Is Going to Be Tough to Beat!” And don’t get me wrong, this coffee was very good, but we still have a LONG way to go before I start putting this one at the top!

Atmosphere – 6/10

When it comes to atmosphere, I rank it on two bases: Outdoors and indoors, because I split up my workday today and worked from two different places at the resort. Outside was definitely my favorite of the two. I started my workday here, and I had the space ALL to myself! Sitting by the waterside was peaceful, and I really enjoyed the nice breeze. The only downside of sitting outside right now is the construction Disney is performing on the exterior of the resort.

My computer started getting a low battery about three hours into my workday, which meant I needed to move inside. The space I chose to sit inside was Tambu Lounge. This area doesn’t tend to get busy earlier in the day since food doesn’t begin being served until 4 PM, so it was fairly quiet. I do wish I could hear the music more, but all I ended up hearing were the party names being called for ‘Ohana, which was a little annoying. For these reasons, my atmosphere rating is 6/10. Also, yes — I got the ‘Ohana noodles because duhhhh!

Tambu Lounge

Space – 3/10

The space availability is what really hurt the Polynesian’s overall score because there was VERY little seating when it comes to tables and chairs. Outside, there is very limited seating because of the construction right now — there are only 10! And the inside isn’t much better. The only tables and chairs you’ll find are at Capt. Cook’s (the quick-service location) and Tambu Lounge.

Capt. Cook’s

The rest of the space throughout the lobby and upstairs is just chairs. And good luck finding an outlet because they’re basically non-existent! I got lucky and grabbed a table at Tambu Lounge with a nearby outlet, but I literally only saw five reachable outlets throughout the whole resort! Because of this, my space rating gets a 3/10.

Polynesian Village Resort

Overall – 5/10

Based on the coffee I had, the atmosphere, and the space, the Polynesian Village Resort gets a 5/10 when it comes to working from home at the Disney resorts. The coffee was good, the atmosphere was good, but the space? Not so much.

Here are my current rankings:

  1. Coronado Springs Resort – 7/10
  2. Polynesian Village Resort – 5/10
