A new version of a hilt theme plus additional upgrades are landing at Savi’s Workshop for aspiring Jedi looking to craft lightsabers in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
New V3 Hilt Theme Arriving at Savi’s Workshop
Inspired by the designs of the High Republic era of the Jedi Order, Protection & Defense is the latest Savi’s Workshop lightsaber hilt theme to receive a V3 update, announced by Disney Parks Blog:
Preserved in the Jedi archives and safeguarded for generations, an updated hilt theme awaits new builders eager to forge their very own lightsaber.
Adorned with mysterious ancient Jedi iconography, each lightsaber celebrates the optimism and grandeur of the High Republic while honoring those who dedicated themselves to protecting others. Carrying the legacy of the High Republic into a new era, this theme reflects a time when the Order stood as a symbol of peace and hope across the galaxy.
The hallmark of the Protection & Defense hilt theme is “striking white finishes and rich gold detailing.” The Protection & Defense hilt pieces were last updated in 2023.
This is the second hilt theme to receive a V3 update; the first was Power & Control in May 2026, which became available shortly after the May the Fourth celebrations.
Additional Lightsaber Upgrades
Along with the updated Protection & Defense hilt theme, the lightsaber blades themselves are getting a technology upgrade. According to Disney, the lightsaber chassis and blades
[have] been enhanced with brand-new features like a thermal cutting effect, a spinning effect, and deflection effects. Plus, upgraded audio quality and smoother blade activation now creates an even more immersive experience.
Additionally, the upgraded lightsabers allow for color-changing blades when used with rare cracked Kyber crystals. “A quick flick of the wrist” will switch the blade color from blue to red (or vice versa).
The upgrades will be available soon at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Resort.
