Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine in films for over 25 years, was evasive in a recent interview about whether his character will return in a future Avengers film.

Hugh Jackman Hints at Wolverine’s Future

Variety recently shared an article on Hugh Jackman, regarding his acting career and the wellness rituals that helped maintain his Wolverine physique for so many years. At one point, interviewer Ann Tingley said that even though Jackman has denied being in Avengers: Doomsday, we still haven’t heard a firm denial about Wolverine being in Avengers: Secret Wars.

When asked if there was a reason for that, Jackman joked:

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Though Jackman playfully avoided answering the question, he continued to joke in such a way that certainly suggests he is hiding something from fans (for now):

“I do have an internal chip that is not metaphorical. There’s a literal chip, and if I say the wrong thing, I get shut down. I don’t know who controls that chip, but someone is controlling it.”

While Jackman’s answer was evasive, it has been confirmed that the TVA, an organization that worked with Wolverine and Deadpool in their team-up film, Deadpool & Wolverine, will play a role in Avengers: Doomsday. Fans have speculated that Deadpool and Wolverine could appear in the next Avengers films, especially as trailers for Avengers: Doomsday have confirmed several characters from the X-Men franchise will return.

Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, previously downplayed rumors, saying he had not been involved in the filming of Avengers: Doomsday and suggested a more limited role for Deadpool in the future.

Avengers: Doomsday, the next upcoming Marvel film, releases in theaters on December 18, 2026. Fans in the U.K. can see the movie two days early.

The movie will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, currently scheduled for December 17, 2027.
