The Gibbons exhibit near Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been drained of water, potentially for refurbishment.

There have been no Gibbons visible to guests for some time now. One reportedly passed away and the other now lives backstage, leaving the exhibit uninhabited.

Crews have started draining the moat that runs around the edge of the exhibit. There are still some pools of water, either because draining isn’t quite done or because of recent rain.

We could see a piece of draining equipment running across the moat.

There are no other signs of work in the area but the draining could be for a renovation of the exhibit. That might mean Gibbons will return or a different animal will move in.

Angola colobus monkey exhibit at Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail was refurbished earlier this year.
