NEWS! Close-Up Look at the NEW ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Attraction in Disney World

STOP RIGHT THERE, Monster fans, Disney just dropped some concept art for one of the major attractions coming to Hollywood Studios’ Monstropolis land when it opens next year!

Monstropolis Concept Art

The new land, which is being built in the space formerly occupied by the Muppet Courtyard (and expanding into some formerly backstage space), is set to recreate the city from Pixar’s iconic 2001 film Monsters, Inc. We’ve been tracking construction on the project closely since before construction began, and now Disney has given us a NEW piece of concept art to obsess over. Let’s take a look!

The latest piece of updated art features the Glob Theater, which will host the “Welcome to Monstropolis” show, a presentation hosted by Mike and Sulley that will “introduce humans to Monstropolis.” According to Chris Beatty, Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering, “Sulley has been working on a small, homespun show, but Mike – ever the showman – has a few surprises up his sleeve that he thinks will bring down the house.” Of note, elements of the theater, specifically the boxes, look very similar to those that were present in the theater’s former occupant: The legendary Muppet*Vision 3D.

In addition to the concept art from within the show, Disney also released art showing a preshow room that’s dressed like a concession area, complete with a snack stand.

Of note, Disney actually released two different pieces of art representing this room.

While the two look mostly the same, you can see some differences in the signage…

… and the positioning of the posters. Can you spot the differences?

In addition, Disney also released a closer look at the outside of the building, which still looks similar to the classic Muppet*Vision 3D.

You can see Mike and Sulley greeting what appear to be adoring fans on a red carpet…

That concept fits the show into the land’s overall “H.U.M.A.N. Day” theme. Short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” Disney explains that through this event, which is “designed to introduce humans to life inside Monstropolis while helping monsters discover that humans are not so frightening after all,” humans are invited to “explore the city, meet its citizens, taste unique cuisine, and step into the everyday world of monsters in a totally new way.”

The “Welcome to Monstropolis” show is scheduled to open with Monstropolis in 2027. Other opening day elements of the land are scheduled to include Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza quick-service eatery, the Monsters University Alumni Club, the Scareporium store, and a recreation of Harryhausen’s Restaurant, with a gigantic Animatronic monster chef.

However, one major element of the land will be missing from the land on opening day, as the highly anticipated, central e-ticket door coaster won’t be opening with Monstropolis. Disney confirmed that the long-awaited coaster, which will take guests inside the Monsters, Inc. factory to ride through the film’s climactic door chase and see them lifted 40 feet into the air in four seconds, won’t be ready in time for the land’s debut.
