A new permit from Walt Disney Imagineering suggests a playground will be constructed in the new Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Monstropolis Playground

The permit is for the former location of Stage 1 Company Store, the Muppets store that was demolished after Muppets Courtyard closed last year to become Monstropolis. The contractor, Landscape Structures, Inc., specializes in a variety of playground equipment.

Disney has not announced a playground for Monstropolis and one isn’t visible on concept art. But we don’t know what else they would hire a playground company to do except build a playground.

Concept art does show a covered area near the Monsters, Inc. building that will house a new roller coaster. This could be the play area, although it’s nowhere near the Stage 1 Company Store address. The former site of the store is represented by a plaza structure outside Harryhausen’s.

It’s possible Landscape Structures won’t be installing a large playground but just one or two interactive elements.
