Disney’s ESPN has launched ESPN JV, a new YouTube channel designed to introduce children to sports through interactive challenges, athlete appearances, and original programming.

ESPN JV, short for “Junior Varsity,” features videos that test viewers’ sports knowledge, explore memorable sports moments, and introduce young fans to athletes. The channel covers basketball, football, soccer, baseball, and tennis, with programming that includes collaborations with Disney Jr. ESPN says new videos will be added regularly.
Celia Bouza, ESPN’s vice president of multi-platform video, said:
“ESPN JV is about creating an exciting entry point into sports for the next generation of fans. By combining ESPN’s connection to the biggest moments and personalities in sports with creative, interactive storytelling, we’re building a destination where kids can explore their interests, discover new sports and develop a lifelong love of the game.”
The channel also features The Sports Explorers, an original animated series starring Ez, Shay, PJ, and Nora, collectively known as the “ESPN Squad.” Created by ESPN Creative Studio, the characters help young viewers discover sports through educational storytelling. The series was developed through a collaboration between ESPN and WSC Studios, the creative production arm of WSC Sports.
The launch builds on ESPN’s efforts to reach younger viewers through alternative sports broadcasts. Previous presentations have incorporated Disney characters into live game coverage, including the NHL’s Big City Greens Classic and Inside Out Classic, which used tracking technology to recreate the action through animation.
Disney’s broader push to reach children on digital platforms also includes working with creators and expanding short-form content to “meet kids where they are.”
