This weekend, unionized Disneyland Resort character and parade performers will protest Disney’s failure to settle a fair first contract.
Disneyland Character Performers Protesting

The 1,700 performers unionized as Magic United under Actors’ Equity Association in early 2024 and have been negotiating with Disney ever since. The theme park giant’s most recent proposal did not include paid parental leave, eliminated a paid holiday, and reduced how much Disney matches employee contributions to their 401(k) plans.
When news of that proposal broke, Disneyland Resort spokesperson Jessica Jakary said in a statement, “Disneyland Resort values its cast members, offers competitive benefits and is proud of its long history of working collaboratively with the unions that represent them.”
According to the union, there has been some negotiation progress related to health and safety issues, but Disney also presented a contract with zero percent wage increases.
Character and parade Cast Members will hold a rally on Saturday, October 17, at 10 a.m. on the Northwest corner of Harbor Blvd and W Katella Ave near Disneyland Resort.
“The message you will hear at our rally is that despite Disney’s actions to date, we remain willing and able to bargain with the company to reach a fair contract for the character and parades workers who are the public face of Disneyland and who make a visit to the park rewarding,” said Equity’s Executive Director Al Vincent Jr.
