3 Changes Quietly Roll Out at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

There is a LOT going on around Disney World right now. Piston Peak is being built at Magic Kingdom, with Villains Land construction on the horizon. Construction on Tropical Americas is underway at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it’s moving fast. However, we find that we’re often checking on Disney’s Hollywood Studios the most!

Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios has had a crazy year so far! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets debuted, The Magic of Disney Animation recently opened, new Mando and Grogu missions hit Smugglers Run, and the park’s transformation isn’t done just yet. We’re going to update you on everything that’s happening at Hollywood Studios right now, so let’s dive into it!

If you have a trip planned to visit Hollywood Studios, you’ll want to know it’s been oddly busy for October. Normally, it’s Magic Kingdom that sees the massive October crowds, as guests check out the fall decorations before they go away and enjoy Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Nope, Hollywood is getting busy as well!

The crowds are out at Hollywood Studios!

Inside the park, we noticed that the new Disney World trash cans have arrived in Toy Story Land. You’ll find them by Woody’s Lunch Box and Toy Story Mania. They have a playful and colorful design to them, which nicely fits the theme and vibe of Andy’s Backyard.

New trash cans in Toy Story Land!

These new solar trash cans have been popping up in all four Disney World parks for a few months now, and they’re still coming. Instead of using your hands to push in a swinging door, you can step on the push-down bar, and it will open the trash can so you can easily throw your things away without any of the food, sauce, and other things getting on the door and creating a bigger mess throughout the day.

Let’s move over to Monstropolis, because we know that’s what you’re really waiting to hear about. We’re not exaggerating when we say we check on the construction of this land EVERY SINGLE DAY. We’re always keeping an eye out to see if anything is new or if anything has changed. In fact, right now we have our eyes out for the Glob Theater sign for the new show that’s replacing Muppet*Vision 3D.

No sign just yet!

Our reporters, who go into the parks each day, actually send back a video with a thumbs down every time it’s not there. Let’s just say…we’ve gotten a lot of “thumbs down” videos lately…

Another day, another thumbs down!

Other than the sign, it looks like construction has been progressing nicely. We occasionally notice new small details, like the monster scale shingles on one of the buildings.

We love the little details!

Speaking of construction on Monstropolis, Disney Imagineering recently filed a new Notice of Commencement permit for general construction. The address listed on the permit is 361 Cypress Drive, which is the former Stage 1 Company Store next to the building that will become the Glob Theater.

The contractor on the permit is Landscape Structures, Inc., which is a company known as a commercial playground manufacturer. We’ve seen this contractor before, as Disney is working with Landscape Structures, Inc. right now for playgrounds in the new Tropical Americas land in Animal Kingdom, Pueblo Esperanza. They’ve also done a few temporary playgrounds for EPCOT’s festivals. The evidence is telling us that Monstropolis could be getting a playground, which is exciting!

If you go to check out the construction, you’ll see that Disney has actually built a themed merchandise cart full of Monsters, Inc. merchandise. It sits in the middle of Grand Avenue in anticipation of the new land. We actually confirmed with a Cast Member that this was built just for this.

New merch cart!

There’s a lot going on at Hollywood Studios, and we don’t blame you if it can get tricky to keep up. That’s what we’re here for! So, make sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog for all the latest news and updates.
