More monster-inspired trim and weathered paintwork are bringing the buildings of Monstropolis to life as construction continues at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Monstropolis Construction Update

Our latest look at the former Muppets Courtyard reveals additional decorative touches across the façades, with painting currently concentrated around the restroom building attached to the future Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza.

Cream-colored trim resembling rows of pointed teeth lines the building above its red brick walls. More angular accents surround the arched openings, with pointed projections that give the window frames a predatory, ear-like appearance.
These additions build on the monster-inspired architectural details previously installed around the former Gonzo’s Royal Flush restrooms, including oversized riveted elements that lend the façade an industrial style.
Hand-Painted Brick and Stone Details

The brickwork features a mix of dark red and brown tones, with painters adding the pale mortar lines by hand.

Different stages of that process are visible across the building. Some sections have a complete network of light-colored lines separating the bricks, while neighboring areas still have darker joints awaiting the same treatment.
The decorative window surrounds are also receiving scenic paintwork to create the appearance of weathered stone. Subtle beige and gray shading gives the pale frames a more aged finish, particularly around their edges and recessed sections.

On the side facing Grand Avenue, overlapping shakes cover the upper façade beneath a steeply pitched gable. Their rounded ends create a pattern resembling monster scales.
We previously reported when teal, gold, and bronze coloring appeared on these shingles, which were initially installed with a gray finish. The latest views show varied blue, orange-brown, and muted gray tones across the individual pieces.

Nearby building fronts remain surrounded by multiple levels of scaffolding. One narrow façade has pointed finials and tooth-like accents above gray brickwork, while other sections remain unfinished or partially concealed beneath protective sheeting. Construction walls continue to block views of the lower portions of the work area.
Monstropolis is replacing Muppets Courtyard and will open in phases beginning in 2027. Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will replace PizzeRizzo, while work also continues on the land’s suspended door coaster, which has not received an opening timeframe.
Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Monstropolis is currently being constructed on the site of the former Muppets Courtyard and will open in phases beginning next year, though no opening date has been announced. Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant visited by characters in the first Monsters, Inc. Read more about the land’s shopping and dining venues.

Additionally, a new coaster show building is being added in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. The door coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster.

The new show inside The Glob theater, which previously housed Muppet Vision 3-D, is officially called Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike, with an original song from prolific musician and composer Randy Newman.
