Protective ropes have been removed from around a pillar near the entrance to EPCOT’s Italy Pavilion, revealing an apparent paint touch-up but few other visible changes to its worn base.
Italy Pavilion Pillar Base

Last week, black stanchions and retractable belts surrounded the pillar and its polygonal steps, blocking guest access during apparent maintenance. Those barriers are now gone, though there doesn’t appear to have been substantial changes to the pillar itself.
The most noticeable change appears to be on the square section directly beneath the pillar’s ornate footing. Previously gray and patchy, this component now has a beige-gold finish that coordinates with the decorative scrollwork and leaf details above it.

The apparent repaint brings that section closer in appearance to the neighboring pillar’s base. Visible in our wider photo from last week, the opposite pillar remained accessible to guests and has a similar, though worn, beige-gold finish beneath its decorative footing.
Beyond that small section, the recently uncovered base appears largely unchanged. The surrounding concrete steps remain light gray, with uneven coloration, rough surfaces, and worn patches visible across their tops and vertical faces. The beige-gold treatment does not extend onto these lower tiers.

Our latest photos were taken following early morning rain, which may account for some of the darker areas. However, the steps retain much of the same weathered appearance seen while the pillar was roped off last week.
With the barriers removed, guests can once again approach the base. The visible changes suggest a limited paint touch-up, though the full scope of the work is unclear.
