Planning a Walt Disney World vacation often involves groceries, luggage, and sometimes switching resort rooms during your stay. But what happens when you have food that needs to stay cold and your room isn’t ready? There’s some confusion about what Disney’s Bell Services will and won’t store, especially when refrigerated items are involved.
A recent discussion on DISboards brought up this exact situation, and experienced Disney World visitors shared some helpful advice for guests planning split stays or arriving with groceries.
Will Disney Bell Services Store Refrigerated Groceries?
DISboards member PatsGirl started the conversation while planning an upcoming stay at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The family has two separate reservations, one for their first night and another for the following four nights.
Although both reservations are at the same resort, there’s no guarantee the family will remain in the same villa for the entire vacation.
The bigger concern involves groceries. Some of the food they’re bringing needs refrigeration, and moving between rooms would mean finding somewhere to keep everything cold.
PatsGirl explained:
“Until this morning I thought it was not possible to store refrigerated items with Bell Services but I’m now reading differently.”
The member wanted to know whether Bell Services would temporarily store a small bag of refrigerated groceries while the family waited for their second room.
As several experienced DISboards members explained, there’s an important difference between storing refrigerated items and transferring them between Disney resorts.
The Difference Between Storage and Resort Transfers
DISboards member Fangorn, who identified himself as Steve, explained where much of the confusion originates.
“Bell Services can, and does, store refrigerated items.”
Fangorn went on to explain that Disney no longer transfers refrigerated items between different resorts as part of its luggage transfer service.
In other words, guests staying at the same resort who need temporary refrigerated storage have a different situation from guests moving their groceries to another Disney Resort hotel.
According to the experiences shared in the discussion, Bell Services will hold refrigerated groceries while guests wait for their rooms, including during a room change within the same resort.
For guests planning grocery deliveries or bringing food from home, understanding this distinction is important.
What Happens When You Switch Rooms at the Same Resort?
DISboards member Dave006 offered additional details about how Bell Services handles luggage and groceries during a room change.
Dave explained that guests moving between villas should arrange for Bell Services to collect their belongings and hold everything until the new room becomes available.
“Yes they will store your cold items since you will be at CCV for both reservations, and deliver your cold items + luggage at the same time to your second room.”
Dave also pointed out that guests changing Disney Vacation Club villas must check out of their first room by 11 a.m., while their second villa might not be ready until after 4 p.m.
This potentially leaves several hours when guests have no access to a room or refrigerator.
Bell Services holds the belongings during this period, rather than transferring everything directly between rooms while guests are away.
Dave also suggested that the original poster might not need to change rooms at all. Since both reservations are for the same resort, Disney might be able to keep the family in one villa, depending on availability and room assignments.
Experienced Disney Guests Share Their Grocery Storage Tips
Other DISboards members offered practical suggestions based on their own experiences.
Member monorailmom shared how their family handles refrigerated groceries when changing rooms.
“We keep some insulated grocery bags in our Owners Lockers”
The member explained that their family places chilled groceries into insulated bags before handing them to Bell Services for refrigerated or frozen storage. Their belongings are then delivered when the next room becomes available.
For guests moving between different resorts, DISboards member kanerf shared another approach:
“I have an insulated backpack that I use to carry my chilled items from one resort to another on a move day.”
An insulated backpack or cooler bag offers an alternative for transporting chilled groceries between resorts when Disney’s luggage transfer service won’t handle them.
Guests should still plan for safe food temperatures during transportation, particularly when carrying dairy products, meats, or other perishable items in Florida’s heat.
What Disney World Guests Should Know Before Arriving
The biggest takeaway from the DISboards conversation is that guests shouldn’t confuse refrigerated storage with refrigerated transportation.
Based on members’ recent experiences, Bell Services at Disney Resort hotels will store refrigerated groceries under certain circumstances, including before room access and during room changes at the same resort.
Transferring those same groceries between two different Disney resorts is a separate issue, and guests should plan to transport refrigerated items themselves.
Guests planning a split stay should also consider keeping chilled groceries in clearly marked, separate bags. This makes everything easier for Bell Services and helps prevent refrigerated items from getting mixed in with regular luggage.
Since storage arrangements and available facilities might differ by resort, checking directly with Bell Services before arrival is a sensible precaution.
For PatsGirl, the advice helped resolve the confusion surrounding the upcoming Copper Creek stay. After learning how the process works, the member thanked everyone for their help.
It’s another example of how a simple question from one Disney World visitor leads to useful information for others planning their vacations.
