According to Variety, Academy Award-winning composer Kris Bowers is set to compose an original score for Disney’s upcoming animated film, Hexed.
‘Hexed’ Original Score by Kris Bowers
Hexed will star Hailee Steinfeld, Jodie Foster, and Walton Goggins in this newest Disney animated film. Hexed follows a young girl who discovered she has magical powers and thrown into a hidden realm of witches. This month, Disney described this film as an “unexpected journey to a world of witches that sparks a connection between a mother and daughter.”
In his exclusive interview with Variety, Bowers touched on the film’s theme in his composing process when he said, “Creating the score for ‘Hexed’ was all about exploration and experimentation. Inspired by a young woman who dreams of flying, both literally and metaphorically, I began exploring unusual ways of making music with air: bird call whistles, wind wand, nose flutes, bottles, kazoos, air sirens, and even recordings of actual birds transformed into instruments.”
Bower discussed further how he used the film’s theme and setting to inspire his choice of sound: “The film’s unique take on a magical realm inspired a sound that blends orchestra, an effected chamber woodwind ensemble, synths, and natural sound elements, often blurring the line between acoustic and electronic textures. At its core, this is a deeply emotional mother-daughter journey, and I wanted the music to capture both that intimacy and the wonder and adventure of this world. I’m so grateful for the incredibly engaging collaboration with Fawn, Jason, Jared, and the entire Disney Animation filmmaking team.”
This is not the first score Bowers has composed for an animated film; he previously composed a score for the animated film Steps.
Hexed will also be directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, and on the board of producers are Roy Conli and Yvett Merino.
Hexed is set to hit theaters November 25.
