The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific (APAC)’s longtime president, Luke Kang, is retiring after 16 years. Disney APAC executive VP Carol Choi will succeed him at the end of the year.
New Disney Asia Pacific President
Carol Choi will officially take over as president of Walt Disney Company APAC on December 1, 2026, Variety reports. She succeeds longtime president Luke Kang, who came to the company in 2011 to head its Korea branch; he later would lead Disney’s operations in Greater China and North Asia. Kang’s approach focused on growing Disney’s regional business influence through localization, digital initiatives, and closer ties with consumers.
Choi has been with Disney for 20 years and has been instrumental in growing the company’s content reach in the Asia Pacific market, including overseeing the region’s studio operations, original content strategy, and integrated marketing. She also played a part in expanding Disney+ to the APAC region and establishing prominent partnerships with leading regional creators and talent.
Choi was profiled by Variety in 2024 as part of the Variety 500. At the time, her title with the company was Managing Director/Executive VP, APAC Integrated Marketing and Original Content Strategy.
Choi expressed her gratitude to her predecessor as she accepted the leadership role of Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific:
“I am honored to take on this role and grateful to Luke for the strong foundation he has built. Asia Pacific is home to some of the world’s most passionate fans and dynamic creative communities. I look forward to working with our teams and partners to bring exceptional stories and experiences to audiences, grow our businesses, and deepen Disney’s connection with fans across the region.”
Similarly, Kang had nothing but praise for his successor in his statement:
“It has been an extraordinary privilege to lead Disney in Asia Pacific through a period of significant growth and transformation. Carol is an exceptional leader whose deep knowledge of our businesses, creative ambition, and instinct for consumers make her uniquely positioned to build on this momentum and lead APAC into its next phase of growth.”
