Could This Be Our Disney Dim Sum Dreams Come True?

Could This Be Our Disney Dim Sum Dreams Come True?

There are some Disney dining ideas that, once they pop into your head, you wonder why they haven’t happened already. For me, dim sum at EPCOT‘s China pavilion has always been one of them. Yesterday, I stumbled across images of the Disney Princess-themed dim sum offerings at Hong Kong Disneyland, and just like that, I was back to thinking about what a wonderful addition this could be at Walt Disney World. Beautifully presented, full of character, and inspired by a cuisine with such a rich cultural tradition, these little bites are everything I want to see more of in Disney dining. Now, can someone please get this idea onto the US Imagineering table?

Don’t get me wrong, EPCOT’s China pavilion already has some delicious options. Lotus Blossom Café serves familiar quick-service Chinese favorites, while Nine Dragons Restaurant offers a more leisurely sit-down meal featuring dishes inspired by different regions of Chinese cuisine. Both have their place, and I’m certainly not suggesting we need to replace what’s already there. But dim sum is an entirely different experience, and that’s what I think the pavilion is missing. If you’ve ever enjoyed yum cha, you’ll know that it’s about so much more than choosing something from a menu. It’s the parade of steaming baskets, the excitement of spotting something you haven’t tried before, the sound of dishes being called out, and the inevitable conversation around the table about which little plate everyone wants to share next. Those trolleys rolling between tables are part of the fun, and there’s a wonderful energy to the whole experience that a traditional restaurant menu simply can’t recreate.

Disney Hong Kong Dim Sum

I’ve been thinking about this even more since seeing what Hong Kong Disneyland has been doing with character-inspired dim sum, with earlier offerings like those above and the new Disney Princess dim sum baskets. The resort has shown how beautifully Disney storytelling can be brought into this style of dining, with imaginative creations that turn familiar characters into something deliciously unexpected. And really, why should that creativity stop at one Disney destination? Dumplings are wonderfully suited to this kind of culinary storytelling, offering so many possibilities for shape, color, filling, and presentation. Just imagine a selection of Disney Princess-inspired bites, perhaps with details that nod to Mulan and other stories that would feel right at home in the China pavilion. These wouldn’t need to be gimmicky novelty foods, either. Done thoughtfully, they could celebrate the cuisine while giving Disney fans another reason to stop, look closer, and try something new. It’s the sort of detail that makes a Disney dining experience feel special without needing to turn the entire meal into a character interaction. I’ll list the new offerings for the HK Disney Guests below, and you can see what I mean:

Princess Snow White:

  • Snow White – Red Bean Bun
  • Rabbit – Pumpkin Bun
  • Apple – Barbecue Pork Bun

Princess Belle

  • Belle – Lotus Seed Bun
  • Candle – Milk Custard Roll
  • Rose – Salted Egg & Pork Floss Roll

Princess Ariel

  • Ariel – Purple Sweet Potato Bun
  • Seashell – Black Sesame Bun
  • Turtle – Minced Pork with Vegetables Bun

At Disneyland Resort, Din Tai Fung‘s arrival in the Downtown Disney District has definitely filled the neighborhood’s desire for more diverse dining experiences. Its menu includes soup dumplings, steamed dumplings, buns, and wontons, bringing a different style of Asian dining to an already varied dining scene. It’s a welcome addition, and it has me wishing Walt Disney World would take the idea a step further inside EPCOT itself. The China pavilion feels like the natural home for a proper dim sum or yum cha experience, one that embraces the social tradition of sharing tea and a table full of bite-sized dishes. I’d love to see the familiar trolleys, the bustle, the beautifully prepared baskets, and a few Disney-inspired surprises woven into the offering. It would be an opportunity to celebrate Chinese food culture in a way that feels both authentic to the experience and unmistakably Disney. Hong Kong Disneyland has given us a delicious glimpse of what’s possible. Now, Walt Disney World, I think it’s your turn. Can we please put dim sum on the menu?
