Heading on vacation soon? There are new travel advisories you should be aware of!
Travel advisories are put out by the U.S. Department of State, and they typically issue warnings for areas that could be unsafe for Americans to visit. These advisories also include precautions to take when going out of the country. In the past week, some new locations have been added to the travel advisory list, so let’s take a look.
You can find this list and the corresponding map under the Travel Advisories section of the U.S. Department of State website. There, you can sort alphabetically, by location, or by level of advisory. There are four levels available, with Level 1 being “exercise normal precautions” and Level 4 coming to “do not travel.”
On October 21st, France was added to the list, given a Level 2 designation of “exercise increased caution” due to unrest and terrorism. China was also given a Level 2 designation on October 19th with “wrongful detention” as a risk indicator for Americans.
As of October 19th, Kenya was designated a Level 3, which recommends you reconsider travel. The many risk factors in Kenya include crime, unrest, health-related issues, kidnappings, and terrorism. Its next-door neighbor, Tanzania, was given a Level 2 for some of the same risk factors.
Then, back on October 12th, Saudi Arabia was upgraded to a Level 3. The government website states: “Reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia due to risk of drone and missile targeting of American interests by Iran and the Iranian-supported Houthis, armed conflict, terrorism, exit bans, and local laws regarding social media activity. Some areas have increased risk.”
If you’re traveling abroad soon, particularly to one of the locations on the list, make sure to check out the Department of State’s website for additional information on safety precautions, how to avoid scams, and high-risk area news. This is especially relevant to Disney fans traveling abroad to visit Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland. These travel advisories are reviewed on a regular basis, with Level 1 and 2 designations being reviewed every 12 months and Level 3 and 4 designations getting reviewed on a six-month basis.
We’ll keep you updated if there are more travel advisories added to the list, and we’ll share any new travel safety tips we come across to make your vacation as smooth as possible.
