Most locker locations at Universal Islands of Adventure now use facial recognition instead of ticket scanning.
Facial Recognition Locker Rentals

Universal debuted their facial recognition lockers at Epic Universe, later adding ring lights to the Monsters Unchained lockers.

@CoasterK24 on X shared the news that this technology is now available at four out of the five attractions in Islands of Adventure that use lockers: Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, and The Incredible Hulk Coaster. They aren’t yet available at Jurassic World VelociCoaster.

@CoasterK24 points out that the rentals are timed but don’t actually tell you how long they last. The payment consoles at each station are not yet in use. For now, guests who need to pay to extend their locker time must talk to a team member.
The lockers work similarly to Universal’s photo validation entry system. Guests have their picture taken at the locker bay. Their image is connected to their locker. When they return and take a picture again, this is matched with the first image and their locker opens.
When guests open their locker, the screen asks if they want to just open it once or if they want to end the rental.
Guests who don’t want to use photo validation can speak to a team member about using their ticket instead.
@CoasterK24 indicated Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure also has more lockers than before.
Universal Studios Florida has not yet introduced facial recognition at their lockers.
