With more scaffolding gone from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we can see the details of the lightning strike scarring even better.

Tower of Terror Lightning Strike Scarring

A few days ago, we reported on lightning strike scarring repainted on the pink facade. The opening day detail had faded in the sun over the years. Crews began removing scaffolding this week and it’s now gone from above The Hollywood Tower Hotel sign.

This makes the scarring much easier to see. The epicenter is just above the center of the sign. It spreads out across the facade in shades of blue, purple, black, and white, creating an eerie look.

Amid the scarring are cracks. Though the lightning strike scarring is the most obvious update, other paint and details were refreshed.

The scarring extends below the sign, where scaffolding remains. These sections don’t appear to have been fully repainted yet although they’ve received primer. We’ll probably see colors added soon.

Meanwhile, repainting continues on other sections of the facade. Railings and walls are partially painted with primer, making them white or gray. They will eventually get fresh color. A wooden structure on this balcony appears to be awaiting new theming.

The wall closest to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets has been primed so is significantly paler than the rest of the pink building.

Windows across the tower are covered with plastic and/or outlined in red tape to keep them protected. We noticed “X”s drawn below some windows, marking them for some reason.

Above is what the tower looked like in July, when the lightning strike scarring had not been repainted and just looked gray.

The ride continues to operate during refurbishment.
