Josh D’Amaro Celebrates Bob Gurr

In an Instagram post shared on Gurr’s birthday, October 25, D’Amaro posted a photo of himself alongside Gurr at D23. His message highlights Gurr’s time working with Walt Disney himself and his many breakthrough contributions to Disney Parks attractions and transportation.
D’Amaro’s full caption reads:
Happy 95th birthday to a true Disney Legend @bobgurrofficial!
Bob worked alongside Walt himself and helped create some of our most iconic rides — Autopia, the Haunted Mansion “Doom Buggy,” and, of course, the Monorail.
Bob’s creativity and ingenuity helped shape @waltdisneyimagineering and the Disney experiences generations of fans have come to love.
What an incredible legacy. Happy birthday, Bob!
Gurr’s history with Disney dates back to 1954, when he was brought in to consult on the design of Disneyland’s Autopia cars. At WED Enterprises, the predecessor to Walt Disney Imagineering, he specialized in vehicle design, contributing to the Monorail, Matterhorn Bobsleds, and Main Street, U.S.A. vehicles. He retired in 1981 and was named a Disney Legend in 2004.

His involvement with Disney attractions continues today. In August, Disney revealed that Gurr is consulting on the reimagining of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom. Gurr and fellow Imagineer Roger E. Broggie led the team that developed the attraction’s rotating theater for the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

Gurr is also set to receive another industry honor next month. His induction into the IAAPA Theme Park Hall of Fame is scheduled for November 16, coinciding with the IAAPA Expo in Orlando.

In March 2027, Gurr will also be a guest speaker for a special two-hour tour inside Walt Disney’s restored private plane “The Mouse.”
D’Amaro joined Disney in 1998 and held leadership positions at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World before becoming chairman of Disney’s parks and experiences division in 2020. He succeeded Bob Iger as Disney CEO on March 18, 2026.
