Crews have started removing scrim and scaffolding from The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure as a refurbishment wraps up.

Scaffolding is gone from the ride’s main entrance, although there are still construction walls nearby. The ride has remained open throughout the exterior refurbishment, which began in August.

The exterior was repainted so the cream walls, bronze trim, and blue columns look fresh. There are no apparent design changes. The building originally housed a theater showing the Golden Dreams film. It closed in 2008.

The theater was demolished but the facade, inspired by Bernard Maybeck’s Palace of Fine Arts, remained as the entrance to the new Little Mermaid ride. Under the sea theming was added like seashells, images of music-playing mermaids, and a figure of Triton.

Scaffolding remains in place at the opposite end of the building, crossing over the covered outdoor queue. Scrims were gone during our October 27 visit and we saw no other signs of ongoing work, so the scaffolding may be coming down soon.
