Holiday decorations featuring a menagerie of animals are up at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Diwali lanterns and a Harmabe Market wreath have also arrived.
Animal Kingdom Holiday Decorations
On our recent visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we first noticed that the holiday decorations featuring a wide variety of animals have started to appear in Discovery Island.
Along the Riverside Depot roof is multi-colored lantern-style decorations of animals such as deer, squirrels, foxes, owls, and birds.
Over at Island Mercantile on Discovery Island, there are similar lantern-style holiday decorations of deer, squirrels, owls, ducks, and foxes. These lantern-style decorations have colors like red, green, blue, and yellow and incorporate holiday imagery like snowflakes into the design.
We also spotted a few other bird decorations throughout Discovery Island, including an owl at the peak of one of the buildings, a crane spreading its wings in the bushes, and another bird appearing to be sitting on a nest.
Further back in the park, by Harambe Market, there is a holiday wreath with a star in the center. The wreath looks to be made of repurposed materials, fitting with the land’s theming.
In front of Feathered Friends in Flight, the lanterns strung above the plaza area are decorated with additional items to celebrate Diwali. Diwali is a five-day festival of lights celebrated in Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and some Buddhist traditions.
Usually, just the colorful lanterns and lights, and a few bells and streamers are hung, but during Diwali, which is celebrated from November 6 – 11 this year, additional decorations are added.
Looking at the lanterns, we spotted more flower pom poms, beads, bells, and other hanging decorations. Diwali was also recently celebrated at the Magic Kingdom with a Dance Fest Pre-Parade.
All of these are returning holiday decorations from last year’s holiday season at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
