Construction seems to be the name of the game in Disney World because it’s pretty much EVERYWHERE. Not only are you likely to see signs of construction at your Disney World hotel, but you’ll also see construction in Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom as Disney adds new lands, expansions, and rides to those three parks. Even EPCOT will soon have construction.
Well, there’s no sign that the construction will end anytime soon. Disney World just filed four new permits, suggesting that more work will be done throughout the resort. So let’s get into these permits and see what they mean.
Two of the four permits are for one of Disney World’s water parks, Typhoon Lagoon. Typhoon Lagoon recently closed for the season for its annual refurbishment, so we’re not entirely surprised to see some permits for the water park. The first permit is for general construction at Humunga Kowabunga. The contractor is Gulfcost Utility Constructors, who do infrastructure work like underground utility work, vacuum services, mechanical contracting, fire prevention, and more. So this definitely seems like some infrastructure maintenance.
The second permit for Typhoon Lagoon is also for general construction on Crush n Gusher. The contractor is Harris Contracting. This company does painting, so it looks like some things at Typhoon Lagoon might be getting a fresh coat of paint, which is also general refurbishment stuff.
Let’s talk about the other two permits. The first is for general construction at a parade storage building behind Magic Kingdom. This is likely for general refurbishment, too, as the contractor is Competitive Edge Partners & Consulting, a company that specializes in electrical services, painting, doors, and more.
Finally, Disney also filed a permit for the theater that houses the Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! show in Animal Kingdom. The permit is for general construction, and the contractor is MLC Theming, a contractor that works specifically in theming. Now, this doesn’t mean the theater is getting anything new, but it could mean some of the theming at the theater could be getting updated in some way.
We’ll keep an eye out for more permits in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
