We have some massive Disney news in the AI world: Disney just made another major AI deal.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
Disney just added Marvel and Star Wars characters to Voicemod, an AI-powered voice-modifying platform that lets users change their voice’s tone and sound to sound just like their favorite characters.
Voicemod will add Star Wars and Marvel projects to its platform, allowing its 5.7 million monthly active users to use quotes and sound effects as they communicate on social and gaming platforms like Twitch and Discord. The first Star Wars soundboards from The Mandalorian & Grogu are available now, and more from Star Wars and Marvel will be available in the future.

Available as standalone purchases within the Voicemod platform, users can access soundboards from many fan-favorite Star Wars stories, including sounds and voices of The Mandalorian, Grogu, and more, to build a collection tailored to the characters and worlds they enjoy. The soundboards plug directly into the platform’s audio setup, allowing users to trigger sounds in real time while gaming, streaming, or chatting online.

“Gameplay and streaming are inherently social, and a lot of that experience comes down to how people react and interact in the moment,” Jaime Bosch, Voicemod’s founder and CEO, said in a statement. “These soundboards build on those interactions by giving users a way to bring sounds from Marvel and Star Wars into those moments, whether they’re joking with friends, reacting on stream, or creating content. The shared feelings that come from sounds people know and love generate an instant sense of belonging.”

This isn’t Disney’s first venture into using characters on AI-powered software. Last year, 200-plus Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters were added to Sora AI, OpenAI’s generative AI short-form video platform, under a three-year licensing agreement. However, Disney quickly exited the deal when Sora AI shut down this March.

During the Disney x Sora deal’s dissolution, a Disney spokesperson said, “We will continue to engage with AI platforms to find new ways to meet fans where they are while responsibly embracing new technologies that respect IP and the rights of creators.”
