The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District has asked the South Florida Water Management District for a three-year extension to the World Drive construction project at Walt Disney World.
World Drive Phase III Construction

The District said in a filing that they need an extra three years to complete construction and a “minor modification,” which would involve leaving 0.16 acres of pavement that was originally set to be removed on Floridian Way.
This is phase three of a years-long project to improve traffic around Magic Kingdom by widening World Drive and completing other changes. Phase three covers the expanse of World Drive from south of Seven Seas Drive to Maple Road.

The existing permit expires December 2, 2026. While the District says they have made “significant progress,” they are asking for an extension to December 2, 2029, to complete the roadwork.
The filing says final roundabout and topside work is underway, while landscaping and area development will commence in late 2027. The majority of utility work in the project corridor is complete.
