Disneyland Resort is now utilizing a virtual queue at Downtown Disney District for the release of the popular monthly Kingdom Hearts pins.
Kingdom Hearts Pin Virtual Queue
A new Kingdom Hearts pin has been released at Disneyland and Walt Disney World every month this year, selling out quickly each time. Beginning with the Tuesday, November 3 pin release, guests now have to join a virtual queue to purchase the pin.
Guests within 60 miles of Downtown Disney District could join the virtual queue via the Disneyland app beginning at 5 a.m. Just like with a ride’s virtual queue, they were assigned a “Boarding Group.”
When it was time for them to purchase their pins, they received a notification that their group was called and could head to Disney’s Pin Traders.
Despite the virtual queue, hundreds of guests waited outside Pin Traders for their group to be called. Disney cordoned these guests with yellow tape on the ground.
The physical queue, which guests entered after their group was called, was outlined with blue tape. Several Cast Members guarded the queue to ensure nobody entered without a boarding group.
Pin Traders was not accessible this morning except via virtual queue. A standby queue was not available.
Each guest could request to enter the virtual queue no more than once. Guests could not join as a party, only individually. Once their group was called, they checked in at the “Virtual Queue Return Here” sign.
They then waited in the physical queue before picking pins and checking out with Cast Members at tables.
All of this week’s new limited release and limited edition pins were available via this virtual queue system, but only the Kingdom Hearts pin was exclusive to this release. The other limited pins can be found at other pin locations in Disneyland Resort.
Just after 10 a.m., we received a notification via the app that the Kingdom Hearts pin was sold out. Groups 41 to 46 were being called at that time.
We expect Disneyland to also use this virtual queue system for the last Kingdom Hearts pin releasing in December.
